On 30 June 2026, the SEEDS project will host the online workshop “Beyond the Boiler: Integrated Pathways for Building Decarbonisation” as part of the European Sustainable Energy Week 2026.

Taking place from 09:30 to 11:00 CEST, this policy-oriented session will explore practical and integrated approaches to reducing the carbon footprint of buildings.

Drawing on insights from the SEEDS Greek pilot, the workshop will highlight how smart heat pumps, renewable energy sources, energy storage technologies and energy flexibility can be combined to improve building energy performance and support the clean energy transition.

Participants will also learn more about the regulatory barriers that can slow down the deployment of these solutions. The discussion will identify possible policy recommendations to facilitate their implementation and accelerate the decarbonisation of the European building sector.

Meet the speakers

The workshop will bring together experts from several SEEDS partner organisations:

  • Voula Dimitriadou, Senior Innovation Project Manager and Civil Engineer at RENEL
  • Bernard Ženko, Computer Science Researcher at the Jozef Stefan Institute
  • Iakovos Michailidis, Postdoctoral Research Associate in Complex IoT Management at the Information Technologies Institute, CERTH
  • Apostolos Gkountas, Mechanical Engineer at PSYCTOTHERM

The session will be presented and moderated by Anaïs Gandelin.
