🌱 SEEDS project update – News from our partner Daikin Belux 🇧🇪
“On February 13 the two installed Daikin Altherma 3 air to water heat pumps were successfully commissioned at the demo site ‘De Schipjes’ in Belgium.
They’re hydraulically integrated in a flexible configuration so that they can working in parallel to an existing ground source heat pump. Both air to water heat pumps are placed in cascade. The controlling of the cascade will be done by the PRIVA building management system. As the ground source was almost depleted, the extension with air source devices was well-timed. Currently the ground source is recovering, both naturally as well as with active regeneration by the existing solar thermal collectors.
After summer, when the ground is in stable thermal conditions, it will be possible to start testing the hybrid installation as it was intended to be. Total system performance will be monitored. Model Predictive Control will select the optimal hydraulic configuration, depending on outdoor conditions and heating demands, and will decide whether air source or ground source heat pumps will be addressed.
Together with the commissioning of the Altherma 3’s, SASO (“Send, Attach, Switch on Online monitoring”) boxes were installed. These boxes have a 4G dongle included. With this dongle, data of all the operational parameters of the heat pumps are sent and stored in the cloud. With this data we want to collect information that can be used to test algorithms that are being developed at Daikin to perform predictive maintenance in the near future.”
