The SEEDS project will participate in the 2026 edition of the European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) with a dedicated online workshop titled:

“Beyond the boiler: Integrated pathways for building decarbonisation”

The event will take place online on 30 June 2026 from 09:30 to 11:00 CEST and is organised as an official EUSEW Sustainable Energy Day.

As Europe accelerates its transition toward climate neutrality, decarbonising buildings remains one of the biggest challenges. Heating and cooling systems account for a significant share of energy consumption, making integrated and intelligent solutions essential for reducing emissions while maintaining comfort and energy security.

Moving beyond traditional heating systems

The workshop will explore how the energy transition in buildings requires more than simply replacing conventional boilers. Instead, it calls for integrated approaches combining multiple technologies and strategies working together in a coordinated way.

Participants will discover how smart heat pumps, renewable energy sources (RES), energy storage systems, and flexibility mechanisms can help create more efficient and resilient buildings.

Drawing on insights from the SEEDS Greek pilot, the session will present practical examples of how digital intelligence and smart energy management can optimise building performance while supporting wider grid stability and renewable integration.

From technology to implementation

Beyond the technical dimension, the workshop will also focus on the policy and regulatory framework needed to accelerate deployment across Europe.

Discussions will address some of the barriers currently slowing down the adoption of integrated energy systems, including regulatory constraints, market readiness, and interoperability challenges.

The session aims to provide concrete recommendations for policymakers, industry stakeholders, researchers, and local authorities working on building decarbonisation strategies.

Supporting Europe’s clean energy transition

As part of EUSEW 2026, this event contributes to the broader European discussion on sustainable energy solutions and climate action.

Through its pilot activities and research work, SEEDS continues to demonstrate how advanced control systems, flexibility services, and renewable-integrated solutions can support the transformation of Europe’s building sector toward a smarter and more sustainable future.
