“Development and Experimental Validation of an Unglazed Photovoltaic-Thermal Collector Modelica Model that only needs Datasheet Parameters”.
The study introduces the first validated, user-friendly, and accurate open-source photovoltaic-thermal (PVT) collector model in Modelica, designed for system-level simulation and optimization. Unlike existing PVT models, which are mostly oversimplified and steady-state, this work captures the dynamic thermal behavior of real PVT systems and couples it with an electrical system model through an internal heat transfer coefficient.
Key insights:
🔹 The model is validated using experimental results from an unglazed PVT collector, demonstrating strong agreement under various weather conditions.
🔹 The model calibration relies exclusively on manufacturer datasheet parameters, eliminating the need for parameter estimation from measurement data.
🔹 Accurate PVT modeling necessitates a dynamic approach for thermal aspects, while electrical output is less sensitive to transient effects.
This work provides a fully validated, transparent, and accessible PVT collector model, enabling accurate system-level simulation and optimization for future renewable energy applications.
