🪴 SEEDS project update: some news from Renel Energy & Power Engineering

🇬🇷 An innovative system that supports Renewable Energy generation via photovoltaic panels and a smart reflection system is being designed as a part of the Greek demo site. The implementation of this renovation started with a detailed site survey to evaluate the building’s thermal performance and energy consumption.

☀️ To increase the energy production of the installed PV system, the smart reflection system will tilt as needed based on the position of the sun, the solar irradiance and the weather forecast. The position of the reflection system allows to maximise the amount of the sunlight that reaches the panels, which is expected to increase the energy produced during periods even with low irradiance.

♻️ Focusing on informed decision making, a life cycle cost analysis was implemented. Two different scenarios were examined, both with a positive Net Present Value. A model was developed to support the control of the PV smart tracking system utilising as input several parameters such as the latitude and longitude of the selected location and the PV system characteristics. The output of this model provides information about the optimal tilt of the reflection system, the irradiance and the generated power as well as the annual energy production. To support the predictive maintenance model, a tool was developed to simulate specific faults during the operation of the PV system.

❓ To identify the needs and potential barriers of the decision makers in Greece, a series of interviews were conducted with local authorities and consultancy companies.
